Why Black Is So Fantastic...

Being a beginner nail blogger, I still haven't got the hang on nail photography - the right angles, the perfect light and... the importance of a good background.

For today's nails, I tried, for the first time, a black background and found out why is it so many nail bloggers go for it when it's time to take pics.

I mean, it's just pure awesomeness! It brings out the colours so vividly and mind you I wasn't even wearing a fancy black background, it was a simple restaurant table, not even all that opaque and not with a smooth finish at all.

But.... let's allow you to be the jury and please judge not the mani - watermarble decided it was a no-no day and didn't collaborate one bit (uff!).

Yep... can't stop thinking how lovely these look! :)
Love the black background and should definitely invest on it and make all my photos look this amazing - what do you think?

(Can I say I love the black background one more time without sounding too annoying? ;))
See this watermarble! Lord oh lord! Is it too picky of me if I say the only nail that truly pleased me was my ring finger?
The polishes used were Rituals Late Night Ruby (101) and Purple Professional N.53.
They worked lovely on water and spread nicely and evenly!
I just couldn't get the design to look good on my nails :(
*sad*

And this is me being real brave and showing you my awful, awful tumb.
All because... do you see those bubbles there? I want to know how to get rid of those, shush, be gone, puff, vanished!
How can I prevent them? Please help! :)

If you do know the trick, the secret, the holy grail on how to make watermarble amazing & fantastic looking, let me know in the comments below - I'll be most thankful! :)
Also, tell me how you feel about this background - do you like it or prefer something else?

Finally, either if you're preparing for a rocking Friday night or cuddling on your couch for a relaxing evening, I wish you a fantastic one and see you tomorrow! :)

Hugs & Kissies,

  1. Can't help you with the water marble, only done it successfuly, once! But yours still looks pretty decent. :P
As for the black background, I'm a fan! It's all I use to take my photos, and if you'd like, you can make a lightbox. It's dirt cheap! :P
    Here's the link I followed: http://digital-photography-school.com/how-to-make-a-inexpensive-light-tent
Mine is much much smaller, I my background is black velvet.
    Hope this helps! ^^

    1. hehehe - that's oh so sweet of you! :)
I keep postponing the building of my very own lightbox (tsk...lazy lazy!) but you're right! Ridiculously cheap and it allows me to take pictures regardless of fickle daylight ;) Thank you so much for sharing the how-to!! Superb!!! **

    1. Oh my! Don't I know it! It feels like I've done a ton - I only post the ones I think are less bad - but still I feel so completely inept at it! haha
Thank you for your motivational comment - I shall not give up! :D

  3. I am not sure abut these bubbles... I actually never got them when water marbling. Do you use water in room temperature? Maybe that makes a difference.
I love this mani! It looks kind of abstract :)
As for the background, it looks lovely :) I have never tried black b-ground before either, but you're right it really makes the colors vivid. This will be on my to-do list :)

    1. Thank you! :) I set my glass filled with water one hour before actually using it... I've been reading though and I think it might have something to do with how fast each polish dries. So if you're not fast enough dropping the polish on water, it'll create bubbles (I guess).
Oh, and your photos look so lovely already! If you do try it, can't wait to see how they turn out! :D

  4. I always liked your backgrounds in all your pictures, even if they haven't been black. Granted, black makes everything stand out more, but overall I think you take great nail photos. Well done on your marble too, I'm awful at it, and have never posted them because they are that bad! lol
