Pon & Zi: A Dedication

This is a long due mani - one I said I'd dedicate to BF and one that would be the first I would do, once I got some acrylic paint.

Things got in between and I just never seemed to find the time to sit quietly and do my best on a Pon & Zi mani - after all I wanted it to be special and that also requires a special mood, right? :)

But, finally, here it is and if you don't know Pon & Zi cartoons yet you don't know what you're missing. Check them out here.

According to their creator (Jeff Thomas), neither is assigned a gender, because anyone can relate to each of their personalities regardless of such criteria - a characteristic I love :)
So, all you need to you is that Pon (the lil' yellow one) is usually an optimistic and Zi (the blue one) is more the disconnected type.

Without more blabbering (after all you can read all this in the official page), here's my take on a very dear to me Pon & Zi cartoon, which I've Pinterested for you here:

Can I just say how much I love this manicure?
Please? Pretty please? I was definitely in the right mood and it came out just like I had envisioned it!
But think not that doing them was all smooth sailing - it was NOT! ;)

I started with a saran wrap base of red, light pink and white - I know the original background colours are darker than this but I couldn't quite nail them.

I then created Pon on my index and I had to recreate the hear and mouth a couple times to get them perfect, but apart from that I think it's spot on :)
I painted Zi on my ring finger and I gotta say I didn't need doing any touch-ups on that one - which made me happy.
As for the heart on my pinkie - it's best we don't talk about it much. To get the weird angle right was a pain but it compensated in the end :D

As I didn't want to leave the thumb as an empty canvas, I decided to do the lettering, so everyone in the world would know what to google for in case they got curious enough about the cute cartoon ;)

And as for the middle finger right here, just try and guess how many attempts I had at it before achieving this... ;)
Can't guess? Well, I'll tell you: five!! That's right! Five different attempts!!

On the very first I miscalculated the space I had for the whole text and had to redo.
The second one came out so tiny I was left with too much space on my nail - hahaha
The third one came out the perfect but then the topcoat smudged the whole design (darn thing!)

And then after cleaning it all up and doing the yellow saran wrap again, the fourth came out with the wrong proportions between each word, before I finally nailed it on the fifth attempt! Jeez! What a journey! ;)

Still, I wouldn't have it any other way - I love this manicure and everything about it.
Dedicated to my one and only <3

Hope you like it as much as I do - let me know down below :)

Hugs & Kissies,
Mina *

And the text was worth re-doing five times to have it look like this - no doubt! ;)

  4. Very cute! Good idea with the saran wrap technique :D I've seen a similar design on Rina Alcantaras blog as well. That was quite some time ago though. :)
