I Feel Like A Mermaid...

... with so much rain going on!

So, instead of going against the lousy weather, I decided to go with it and paint some mermaid scales on my nails ;)

Wanna see?

Now, what you're seeing here is a pre-photo - don't be scared. The manicure was still halfway through, as was the cuticle cleanup ;)
I've been trying some indoor shot with my new camera and considering this one was taken with no light box and no special lamp other than my kitchen fluorescent one, I think it's not too bad.
Please let me know what you think (and if you have tips you can share with me, say so too ;)).

And here's the complete look!
I liked the glitter scales but didn't want to go overboard so I did twin accent nails instead ;)

I started it all by painting my  nails two coats of Inocos Pipoca de Saltos.
Just how gorgeous is this bright fuchsia!? *.*

I then picked up my thinnest nail art brush and started freehanding the scales with black acrylic paint.
After that dried (you don't even need to wait, 'cause acrylic paint is that fast drying), I took my minty green acrylic paint and drew inside the black lines.
I find this way easier than having to outline every single line ;)

After that I took my gigantic tube of pink glitter, some clear polish and a medium tipped dotting tool.
I filled the inside of each scale with clear polish using the dotting tool and then just dipped the whole finger inside the tube.
I pressed the glitter against the nail and brushed the remaining excess with a small make-up brush I don't really use.

And voilĂ , this was the end result!
Bright and sparkly to brighten up a dull rainy day! ;)

What do you think of these? With or without glitter?
Let me know how you feel about indoor photos and what you find to be the best set-up for such sessions.

Have a great evening, lovelies!

  2. WITH glitter definitely! And it's such a good idea to use a dotting tool to put polish and then dip the entire finger in the pot. I thought you were applying the glitter individually yo each scale, but your idea was so much better. And honey, let me tell you, these nail are so beautiful :) I love the colors and I love the execution :)
As for shooting with the lamp, try playing with different white balance setting. Sometimes it can improve the colors dramatically :)
