31DC2013 - Day 2: Orange? Steampunk!

Today's manicure is proof that anywhere you are or whatever you are doing, you're prone to find some inspiration or other :)

I was casually watching «Amazing Wedding Cakes» on Food Network when I saw this amazing cake they made.
And that's when I came accross the word Steampunk, a sub-genre of science fiction (you can learn more about it here).

When thinking of Steampunk inspired movies I immediately think of Howl's Moving Castle and Wild, Wild, West (hahaha).

So, here's my take on the theme:

I don't think you'll believe this but... this is actually one of those manis that look better in photos than in real life! True story!
Have you ever had one of these? I did the mani, looked at it and was like 'meh, not good enough for posting - gotta do some new ones'.
And I just took the photos out of habit of storing and collecting my failed manis - hahaha - I mean it!

And then while I was seeing the photos, I was like 'wooooo' :))
Hehehe - not to brag or anything but these came out sharp and with the perfect light! No yellow skin on these ones - have you seen my tan has completely faded? ;(

I started with two coats of one of my favourite oranges - Prestige Orangerie - because I think it actually suits my skin tone, rather than making it look horrible ;)

I then went about doing the mechanism parts with gold acrylic and a thin nail art brush.
I added some 'rusty' parts to each of them - see the copper bits on some parts? - using Beauty UK Voodoo.
Lastly, I tried to outline each piece as best as I could with black acrylic and although some parts got muddled and not so straight, I actually think it's not too bad :D

Although I didn't like wearing these so much, I loved seeing them on the pictures ;)

What do you think of them? Let me know all about it in the comments below and have yourselves a good night, lovelies!

Hugs & Kissies,
Mina *
